EA Exam From India: Remote Testing Has Been Running Since 2 September 2026
You can sit the IRS Enrolled Agent exam (the SEE) from India. Candidates here have been taking it by live remote proctoring since 2 September 2026: there is no in-person testing outside the US, so you sit it from a private room, on a computer with a webcam, while a PSI proctor watches. When we checked on 25 September 2026, PSI’s public availability checker listed open dates for India, in IST, up to 24 December 2026.
What has changed for candidates in India
Two things changed in 2026. From 1 March 2026, PSI Services took over from Prometric as the company that develops and administers the SEE for the IRS, and the IRS says registration and scheduling for the 2026 cycle are open through PSI.
The second change is where you sit it. PSI’s candidate bulletin puts it plainly: “There is no in-person international testing.” Outside the US, the exam is available only by remote proctoring. The bulletin gave 2 September 2026 as the date international testing was expected to begin, and that is when it began for candidates in India: we have confirmed first-hand that candidates here have been sitting remote exams since then.
Key dates at a glance

Where to see live exam dates for India
PSI publishes its open dates on a public availability checker, and you do not need an account to use it. Pick your part, choose Online Proctored (Live), then set Country to India and Timezone to India Standard Time. Every open day and start time is then shown in IST.

What a day’s start times look like
Click an open day and the checker lists its start times. When we checked on 25 Sep 2026, EA-SEE Part 1 on Tuesday 6 October 2026 showed four: 9:00, 9:30, 10:00 and 10:30 PM IST. The appointment runs for four hours, so a 9:00 PM start would finish at about 1:00 AM (our arithmetic). We captured times for that one day only, so check the times for your own date.

Warning: Checking a date does not hold it
PSI says test dates and times are not reserved or guaranteed until booking is complete, and slots go on a first-come, first-served basis. You must book at least 24 hours before your appointment. Availability changes daily, so treat our snapshot as a guide and the checker as the live answer. How to book: Part 4.
Why PSI’s home page still says “delayed”
Open PSI’s IRS portal and the General Information panel still says, under International candidates, that scheduling and testing are “temporarily delayed” and that “New start dates have not yet been determined.” The International Testing section of PSI’s candidate bulletin, revised on 28 August 2026, carries the same “temporarily delayed” wording.

In practice, the notice has been overtaken. When we checked on 25 Sep 2026, the availability checker on the same website listed open Online Proctored (Live) dates for Country India and India Standard Time, and candidates in India have been sitting the exam since 2 September 2026. We have not found an updated announcement from PSI or the IRS, so our reading is that the notice has simply not been revised.
Information: What to rely on instead
- The live checker for which dates are open.
- Your booking itself. Once you book, PSI gives you a confirmation number and emails you the date, time and location. Check them, and tell PSI at once if anything is wrong.
- PSI directly, if you want it confirmed: call +1 (913) 456-7498 (PSI’s international line), Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 8:00 PM ET, or email irs@
support .psigov .us.
In IST those phone hours are roughly 5:00 PM to 5:30 AM the next morning until 31 October 2026, then 6:00 PM to 6:30 AM once US clocks go back on 1 November (our conversion).
One more line in that notice matters if you passed a part some time ago. Candidates with parts that may expire under the three-year carryover rule “will receive additional time because of the delay”. It does not say how much, so confirm your own expiry dates with PSI before you plan around them.
What remote testing means for you
PSI calls the remote format Online Proctored (Live). You take the exam on a computer at home, in a private room, while a PSI proctor checks you in and watches throughout. These are the rules from PSI’s bulletin and its IRS portal that shape your set-up.
A live proctor, start to finish
PSI’s remote proctors check you in before you start and every time you come back into your testing area. You are monitored continuously by video and audio during the test.
A private room
No one else may be in your testing space while you test, pets included. Before the exam is launched you scan the room with your camera, and items such as notes must be cleared from the desk.
The right computer and connection
You need a web camera, speakers, a microphone and a stable broadband connection. PSI highly recommends a personal computer, not one issued by your employer, and you need administrator rights on it.
A whiteboard and an on-screen calculator
There is no scratch paper or pencil when you test remotely: you make notes on an electronic whiteboard, and they cannot be accessed once the test ends. An on-screen calculator is provided; personal calculators are not allowed.
An original ID in your exact name
Show an original, valid, unexpired government-issued ID with your photo and signature, in exactly the name you registered with. A passport is one of the bulletin’s examples; a military ID is not accepted for remote testing. Photocopies and digital images are not acceptable.
Two breaks, and only two
The exam has two scheduled 10-minute breaks. There are no unscheduled breaks when you test remotely, and leaving your testing area or the camera view at any other time ends your test.
Note: Before exam day
Run PSI’s online proctoring compatibility check (opens in a new tab) on the computer you will use, well ahead of time. PSI says it is not the system check used on test day, so allow extra time for checks on the day. You can connect with PSI’s remote proctors up to 15 minutes before your start time, once your exam is ready to launch. Part 4 covers booking and exam day.
Your path to exam day, in four steps
The route from here to a booked exam takes four steps, and each has its own guide. Step 0 comes first because PSI’s bulletin says you must have a Preparer Tax Identification Number (PTIN) issued by the IRS to schedule an examination. Our PTIN guide for Indian candidates walks through the application.
Get your PTIN
PSI needs an IRS PTIN before you can schedule. Our guide covers the application for Indian candidates.

24hrs
Appointments must be booked at least 24 hours ahead.
The current testing window runs to 28 February 2027, and there is no testing in March and April while the exam is updated. After four attempts at a part, you wait for the next window.
Fees are generally not refundable or transferable. In general, if you cancel at least 48 hours before your appointment you do not forfeit the fee; cancel within 48 hours and you do. When you finish, a pass or fail message appears on screen, and a passed part carries over for three years from the date you passed it. For how each paper is built and scored, read the EA exam pattern, paper by paper.
Questions candidates in India ask
Can I take the EA exam from India?
Yes. Candidates in India have been sitting the IRS Special Enrollment Examination by remote proctoring since 2 September 2026. There is no in-person testing outside the US, so you take it online from a private room, on a computer with a webcam, microphone and stable internet, while a PSI proctor monitors you by video and audio.
Why does PSI’s website say international testing is delayed?
PSI’s IRS portal and its candidate bulletin (revised 28 August 2026) still carry an older notice saying international scheduling and testing are temporarily delayed. On 25 September 2026, PSI’s public availability checker nevertheless listed Online Proctored (Live) dates for India in India Standard Time, and candidates in India have been testing since 2 September 2026. Rely on the live checker and on your booking confirmation.
How do I check EA exam dates in India Standard Time?
Open PSI’s public availability checker at test-takers
.psigov .us/ irs/ available/ test. You do not need to sign in. Pick your part, choose Online Proctored (Live), set Country to India and Timezone to India Standard Time, and press FIND. Open days are circled in green; click one to see its start times in IST. Checking does not reserve a slot. How much does the EA exam cost if I sit it from India?
US$317 per part, paid when you book, and a retake costs the same. PSI’s bulletin lists MasterCard, Visa and American Express. Fees are generally not refundable or transferable: in general you keep the fee if you cancel at least 48 hours before your appointment, and you lose it if you cancel within 48 hours.
What do I need before I can book a remote EA exam?
A PTIN issued by the IRS, which PSI’s bulletin says you must have to schedule; a PSI test-taker account in exactly the name shown on your ID; an original, valid, unexpired, government-issued ID with your photo and signature; and a card to pay the fee. Appointments must be booked at least 24 hours in advance.
Until when can I sit the exam in the current window?
The current testing window runs from 1 July 2026 to 28 February 2027, and there is no testing in March and April while the exam is updated. You can attempt each part up to four times in a window. When we checked on 25 September 2026, the last India date listed was 24 December 2026; later months were not yet open.
